Hard To Imagine

This show was the first of the tour where Pearl Jam's set was broadcast by Monkeywrench Radio. The broadcast was picked up by local radio stations and re-broadcast and - as expected in this society - bootlegged like crazy. In addition, the broadcast was played through the Public Address system outside Soldier Field for those who couldn't get a ticket. There's a video clip in circulation of a local nightly news recap of the show that depicts a lot of sad ticketless people outside the ticket office at Soldier Field while the show is being blasted down on them from the outdoor speakers. Unfortunately - even in Chicago, a major city - nothing is known about the pre- or post- show setlists. However, with 47,000 people in attendance screaming their heads off, it does seem possible that there weren't a lot of people at home near their radios recording the show to tape. But if a lot of people where there, a lot of them had to drive home, too, so if you remember anything about the post-show broadcast, please feel free to email us and let us know what went down.

Mid-Show Broadcast

The show begins with the early version of "The Color Red". We know later it was recorded for Yield, but do we know if this version is an original Jack Irons recording?. Since this is the first full show that Monkeywrench Radio is broadcasting, James initially jumps on to announce that very fact. Later, an exasperated James pops on during each of the encore breaks, aptly finishing with "It's been an amazing day here on Soldier Field. One that I'm not going to soon forget.". Nobody has this post-show on tape? Sheesh.

comment ("Porch" ends)
James You are listening to 89.1 FM. Pearl Jam just left the stage. Man, what a fucking amazing show! it was definetly an amazing show. Alright, they're back. (a few guitar chords) I guess they're not. Anyway. Welp. I hope you recorded the show tonight, because I tell you what, you're not going to get it anywhere else except for Monkeywrench Radio. This is 89.1 FM. Hopefully - not only hopefully, but definitely - Eddie's gonna come out later and he's gonna DJ for a little awhile. You guys - on your way home and all that shit, man - you definitely have to tune in 'cause uh, thery're gonna do some crazy shit. We're also gonna get a bunch of people from fuckin Bad Religion. Um, you definitely.... I can't believe that show; that was amazing! Seventy-some-odd-thousand people - it's truly inspiring. Anyway, we're just kinda holdin' on. Everybody here knows that they're gonna do a little encore action. They got a bunch of really weird shit that I heard them practicing yesterday. Maybe they're gonna do one of them. Anyway, I'm just gonna let you sit here and listen to the crowd. And you're listening to 89.1 FM. Chances are you are not in this crowd!
comment ("Blood" ends)
